Randomized Hemodiafiltration Trial Demonstrates Superior Results.

Patients receiving online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) had a 30% lower risk of dying from any cause, a 33% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular-related causes, and a 55% lower risk of dying from an infection compared with patients receiving standard hemodialysis. The 3-year 906-patient On-Line Hemodiafiltration Survival Study also found there were fewer hospitalizations and dialysis sessions complicated by low blood pressure in patients assigned to OL-HDF. The multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled trial's findings are published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
