First Drug to Lessen Heart Failure Mortality in More than a Decade.

Coenzyme Q10 decreased all-cause mortality over 2 years by half in the Q-SYMBIO study, which randomized 420 patients with severe heart failure to receive Coenzyme Q10 or placebo. Coenzyme Q10-treated patients had half the risk of experiencing a major adverse cardiovascular event during the study, significantly lower cardiovascular mortality and fewer hospitalizations for heart failure, and experienced fewer adverse events. The results reveal that Coenzyme Q10 is the first drug to lessen heart failure mortality in more than a decade, according to findings presented at Heart Failure Congress 2013.
