Sodium Bicarbonate May Reduce Risk Of Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury.
MedWire (12/7) reports, "Patients undergoing primary angioplasty who are treated with sodium bicarbonate before and after the procedure have a lower risk for developing contrast-induced acute kidney injury," according to a study published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions. Investigators found that "acute kidney injury...was significantly reduced in patients who underwent early hydration therapy (12%) compared with patients who underwent late hydration (22.7%) and with patients who received no hydration (27.3%)."
