New Insurance Exchanges Rules Allow Kidney Patients To Keep Private Coverage.
The Hill
(3/13, Baker) "Healthwatch" blog reported, "Newly released regulations
for the healthcare law's insurance exchanges will allow certain
patients [to] keep private coverage instead of joining Medicare." The
new "policy drew praise Tuesday from advocates for patients with kidney
disease" who "often choose private insurance over Medicare because it
offers better coverage and lower costs, according to Kidney Care
Partners, a coalition of advocacy groups." According to the piece,
"under regulations that predate the Affordable
Care Act, kidney patients who get their coverage through an employer can
keep their private plan for up to 30 months before being enrolled in
Medicare."
