Patients With ESRD May Benefit More From CABG Than PCI.

MedPage Today Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (12/1, Neale) reported on a study Share to FacebookShare to Twitter published online in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology finding that "for patients with end-stage renal disease who are on maintenance dialysis, CABG appears to boost outcomes in multivessel coronary artery disease compared with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)." The results "are consistent with the bulk of the evidence pointing toward a mortality benefit for CABG over PCI." The study was based on "data from the US Renal Data System" covering "21,981 patients with end-stage renal disease who were on maintenance dialysis, had multivessel coronary artery disease, had at least six months of Medicare coverage, and underwent either CABG or PCI between 1997 and 2009."
