Intermittent Fasting May Reverse Diabetes and Protect the Heart.

Intermittent fasting – which alternates days of "normal" calorie consumption with days when consumption is severely restricted – promotes weight loss in obese individuals, can reverse diabetes in some people, and is potentially cardioprotective, according to a recent review that assessed various approaches to intermittent fasting in the scientific literature. The researchers searched specifically for advantages and limitations of fasting diets for treating obesity and type 2 diabetes. They noted that in addition to its benefits, the intervention is cost-effective and associated with a low risk of adverse effects. The review is published in the British Journal of Diabetes & Vascular Disease.
