Fish Oil May Not Reduce Gestational Diabetes Or Preeclampsia.

Reuters Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (6/7, Narayanan) reports on a study Share to FacebookShare to Twitter published online May 2 by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finding that women who took fish oil pills showed no difference in the rate of gestational diabetes or preeclampsia. The study authors made use of data from five pregnancy centers covering 2,400 women in which the women took three daily capsules of fish oil or vegetable oils. While those taking the fish oil had a lower risk of gestational diabetes (three percent) and preeclampsia (13 percent), the difference was not regarded as statistically significant.

  2. Hi,
I found your writing very interesting and informative. It is a general awareness for the pregnant woman to go for regular check-up. It will be very helpful for everyone and mostly I think for the pregnant lady. As the gestational diabetes affect the pregnant women and they should know the real fact how to maintain their health. I would like to know whether this disease will affect the baby or not and what is the ratio of not affecting/ transferring the disease to the baby?
Hoping to read your valuable post in near future…!

  3. Great questions kanungo. It does appear to be clear that gestational diabetes does have effects on the mother becoming a diabetic herself after the pregnancy as well as the baby having increased risk of being bigger, have more adipose tissue and in turn may have higher incidence of not only birthing complications but also of diabetes later in life. I don't know that anybody knows for sure what the absolute risk is but here are some interesting references for you I pulled from Google Scholar. Thanks again for following and your comments. Take care.
