Method Predicts Prognosis of Patients Diagnosed with Secondary IgA Nephropathy.

Researchers have validated the utility of the Absolute Renal Risk (ARR) of Dialysis/Death concept in IgA nephropathy secondary to Henoch-Schönlein purpura for predicting at the time of diagnosis a patient’s ultimate prognosis (dialysis/death or dialysis alone) 10 and 20 years later. The BMC Nephrology study included 74 patients with IgA nephropathy secondary to Henoch-Schönlein purpura who were followed for an average of 11.8 years. Prediction at time of diagnosis of 10 year cumulative rate of dialysis/death was 0% for patients with an ARR score of zero, 10% for ARR of one, 33% for ARR of two, and 100% for ARR of three.
