Leapfrog Group releases hospital safety scores.

On Tuesday, Leapfrog Group released its Hospital Safety Score for more than 2,500 US acute care hospitals. Several local papers reported on their area hospitals’ results.
        In California, the Santa Cruz (CA) Sentinel (4/29) reports, “Dominican Hospital and Watsonville Community Hospital are among 104 hospitals in California rated ‘A.’”
        In Florida, the Orlando (FL) Sentinel (4/29) reports “that more than half of Central Florida’s 23 hospitals got A grades. None got lower than a C.” Florida Today (4/28) reports that “Parrish Medical Center in Titusville and Heath First Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach each earned an A in the group’s Hospital Safety Scores.”
        In Georgia, the Augusta (GA) Chronicle (4/29) reports, “University got an ‘A’ in the interim report after getting a ‘C’ in October in the previous ranking. Doctors Hospital and Georgia Regents Medical Center maintained their ‘C’ grades. Trinity Hospital of Augusta was not included in the rankings because of problems transmitting its data, spokeswoman Rachel Covar said.”
        In Pennsylvania, the Allentown (PA) Morning Call (4/28) reports, “Lehigh Valley Health Network led the region, getting an ‘A’ grade for its hospitals in Salisbury Township, Allentown and Bethlehem.”
        In Virginia, the Roanoke (VA) Times (4/29) reports that “a national scorecard that grades hospitals on safety has given A’s and B’s to all of the facilities it ranked in the Roanoke region — with one exception. Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital received a C.”
