Diabetics Should Receive Same Diet and Lifestyle Advice as Others

New research suggests that lifestyle advice for diabetics should not differ from recommendations for the general population. In individuals with and without diabetes, researchers found intake of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, pasta, poultry, and vegetable oil is linked to a lower risk of premature death, and intake of butter and margarine is linked to an increased risk. The Diabetologia study found no differences between people with and without diabetes were detected for other lifestyle factors including adiposity, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and smoking. Data were derived from a cohort of participants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC).
