New Kidney Transplant Bills Introduced in Senate.

Sen. Richard Durbin and Sen. Thad Cochran introduced the bipartisan "Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act," which would extend coverage for kidney transplant recipients under age 65 years who are not disabled. Currently, treatment coverage for these patients is cut off after 36 months regardless of their ability to pay for necessary immunosuppressive drugs. Sen. Tom Coburn and Sen. Barbara Boxer also introduced the bipartisan "HIV Organ Policy Equity Act,"which would end the ban on federal research into organ donations from HIV-positive donors to HIV-positive recipients.
