Overweight in Early Adulthood Linked with CKD Later in Life.

Individuals who were overweight starting in early adulthood were twice as likely to have CKD at age 60 to 64 years than those who were not overweight in a JASN study of 4584 people born in 1946. The link between overweight and CKD was only in part explained by diabetes and hypertension. Larger waist-to-hip ratios at ages 43 and 53 years were also linked with CKD at age 60 to 64 years. The authors estimate that 36% of CKD cases at age 60 to 64 in the US could be avoided if nobody became overweight until at least their 60s.
