Researchers Identify Novel Predictor of Contrast-Induced Nephropathy.

The ratio of contrast volume use to estimated glomerular filtration rate (CVeGFRr) independently predicts contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) after a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), according to an analysis that involved more than 3800 PCI procedures. CIN was more than 1.7 times as likely to develop in patients with a CVeGFRr greater than 3 than in patients with a CVeGFRr less than 3. TheJournal of the American College of Cardiology study also found that female gender, history of prior heart failure, diabetes, and cardiogenic shock in the prior 24 hours were more prevalent in patients who had CIN.
