The San Jose Mercury News Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (3/16, Shen) reports, "A recent CDC study says raw milk products accounted for 36 percent of individuals sickened in milk-related disease outbreaks between 1993 and 2006." CDC epidemiologist and lead researcher Adam Langer "noted that research does not support any special health benefits of raw milk." Nevertheless, "raw milk believers swear by the product's purported health benefits, including relief from allergies, eczema, asthma, lactose intolerance, ulcers and inflammatory bowel disease." The article also points out that one child who drank raw milk contracted an infection of E. coli O157:H7, then developed hemolytic uremic syndrome and "experienced kidney failure."
