Homocysteine Levels May Have No Impact On CHD Risk.

HeartWire Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (2/22, Nainggolan) reported, "By examining both published and unpublished genetic studies, an international group of distinguished researchers has reported what they say is final proof that levels of homocysteine have no meaningful effect on the risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD)." Investigators "examined 19 unpublished data sets -- including a total of 48,175 CHD cases and 67,961 controls -- in which multiple genetic variants had been measured."
According to MedPage Today Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (2/23, Smith), the investigators reported that "the key finding is that, in several large unpublished datasets, genetic variation that increases or decreases natural homocysteine levels did not significantly affect the risk of coronary heart disease." The meta-analysis Share to FacebookShare to Twitter is published online in PLoS Medicine.
